I had seen it used a dozen times but finally it clicked when I read The Skillful Huntsman. A visual development of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale by three students at the Art Center College of Design. The plan is to format it something similar to what Scott Robertson guided his students at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, Khang Le, Mike Yamada, and Felix Yoon to do in their "The Skillful Huntsman. The recently purchased design book The Skillful Huntsman was inspirational in the project; it also contains silhouettes as part of the character design process. And the art students in particular are Khang Le, Mike Yamada and Felix Yoon. It also looks very much like a school project for art students. Several years ago, while I was still a student studying Industrial Design at school, I stumbled upon the book "The Skillful Huntsman" in my schools library. With the character brief in mind, the silhouettes were started. Using the right size brushes, on the right size canvas really helps these silhouettes. I would recommend picking up The Five C's of Cinemetography to learn about storytelling and composition, and The Skillful Huntsman to get your design gears turning. Being not much of a reader,this book was such an entertaining and informative read, that I couldn't let this book go. It as a source of inspiration for character designs (and eventually vehicle, environments etc.). The book 'The Skillful Huntsman' demonstrates a industry practice into concept design. This is essentially a sketchbook. REVIEW : THE SKILLFUL HUNTSMAN. "the skillful huntsman" great concept art book! I think its only right to note that I drew upon "The Skillful Huntsman" as inspiration for this approach to developing my design skills.
